Meeting you where you are on the way to where you want to be.
I’m Dr. Colby Schepps, a licensed clinical psychologist, and founder of Aligned Mind Chicago. I have spent over a decade helping adults navigate their life challenges and achieve their therapy goals through cultivating a safe, curious, judgment-free environment. I practice using a trauma-informed, evidence-based and integrative approach, drawing from a variety of treatments, including acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) , and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). I believe therapy is most useful when we lean into the highly relational nature of therapeutic work, while providing tangible tools to help cope with life’s stressors. I specialize in therapy for trauma, depression, anxiety, interpersonal difficulties, life transitions, and stress management. Whether identity is at the core of the work, Aligned Mind Chicago welcomes and supports folks of diverse races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, and abilities.
How It Works
Therapy is a completely individualized experience that begins with me learning more about you, what feels important to you, what’s already going well, and what might be getting in the way. From there, you and I decide where we want to go. You are the expert on you and I am here to support you in moving closer to where you would like to be in life, whether that is in your recovery, your work, your relationships with others, and most importantly your relationship with yourself. With our direction and goals in mind, we will begin to work through areas that might benefit from either acceptance or change in service of higher alignment with your values.
So what happens if we have this great plan and then things change? This space allows for the shifting of gears and being flexible when life asks that of us. One great thing about using a therapy space to process and put out life’s big and small fires, is it allows us to better understand what might be setting and fueling these fires, and equip us with the knowledge and skills to prevent and quell them on our own.
